Infrared spectroscopy, or. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy allows the analysis of organic components. Both liquid and solid samples can be studied. The molecules are continuously excited by a laser beam and the vibrational modes of the molecules are detected. The absorption is in the infrared range, from 350 cm-1 (~28 µm) to 7800 cm-1 (~1.3 µm). Sample identification is performed using commercial and proprietary spectral libraries.
